Due to PA’s Budget Impasse, VOICe, and other domestic violence and sexual assault agencies, have yet to receive ANY funding for the 2015-2016 fiscal year which began on July 1st, 2015. We have been hopefully optimistic the budget would pass before October, but it’s looking like this impasse will extend into December.
VOICe is in the process of extending our line of credit, which also involved having a property assessment and incurred costs associated with these emergency measures. We have begun the process of asking staff to take voluntary layoffs and creating crisis plans with our board of directors while we wait for someone to blink during negotiations.
Unfortunately, reduction of staff will lead to reduction of services to our most vulnerable Butler County residents.
To do our job, we need your help. We need elected officials to pass a budget to fund these core services; we need community organizations and individuals to donate dollars, items or hours to help us survive as we wait. We need our friends and neighbors to call and email elected officials and each other to urge action on all of these things.
Call your senators and representatives with these talking points:
- Discuss how this can affect non-profit organizations
- First pass a short-term funding bill with no policy riders, to prevent a harmful and completely unnecessary government shutdown
- Develop a longer-term budget agreement that eliminates sequester-level funding and increases investment in crucial federal programs which keep our communities safe and productive
- Pass an FY 16 appropriations bill that provides the resources needed for the broad range of critical services, including increased investment in programs that address sexual assault and domestic violence.
